Here`s some mighty fine old-time fiddlin`! Clark Kessinger first recorded in the late 1920`s up into the mid 1930`s. I`d say he was arguably the best all around old-time fiddler recorded before World War 2. I know that`s saying a lot, but if you go back and listen to most 1920-1930`s old time fiddlers, I`d say you would likely agree that he was about the smoothest, most technically advanced fiddler of the era. And luckily for us, he was re-discovered in the 1960`s and got to record again. So give him a listen and enjoy!

At The Fair With The Duke Of Paducah
Here is one of those Starday complimation records. What this amounts to is the Duke Of Paducah with new material in the role of an old circus side show type barker with music tracks of Starday artists dubbed in. Some cuts work good with the banter, some not so well. At any rate, it`s still not a bad record. Happy listening!

Fiddlin Sid Harkreader Christmas tune
Merry Christmas to all the friends of the Archive!
Here`s a mighty odd one! I`m not even gonna pretend to know any facts about this 45. I will say that I`d be about 100% sure this would be the last commercial recording of Fiddlin` Sid Harkreader for sure. Enjoy!

Jam-Up And Honey Dot 45
Here`s a pretty rare 45 by the old Grand Ole Opry comedy duo Jam-Up & Honey. Holding The Sack is a comedy/novelty tune, Twelfth Street Rad is of course the old ragtime number, an instrumental here picked on ukulele. A good pick-you-up tune on a snowy day!

Country And Western Jamboree
Here`s a neat various artist comedy/novelty song LP. I`m not sure, but the Buckingham label looks like it could be related to the Starday label somehow. At least this LP is a Starday type product. Happy downloading!

Joe "Fingers" Carr & His Ragtime Band
Here`s a good 45 set if you are a ragtime music fan. What we have here is a typical ragtime style band led with some mighty good piano flogging by Joe "Fingers" Carr. It also has a mighty fine picture on the cover! Enjoy!

Clude Moody - Country Waltz King
Here is what I believe is the last record made by the great Clyde Moody. Clyde Moody was best known for singing waltzes. This is a pretty good record, but I liked his earlier stuff much better. This just has a too "modern" style of sound for my taste. At any rate, if you like him at all you should download this one. Also, I have posted some Clyde Moody stuff before, so if you like him just search the Archive for more.

Lonnie "Pap" Wilson - The Playboy Farmer
Here for all you Acuff fans is another Roy Acuff linked item. Pap Wilson played rhythm guitar in the Smokey Mountain Boys from about 1938 up till around 1960. He played an old man character in the comedy all the Smokey Mountain Boys performed.
What we have here is a few old comedy songs along with some jokes. Apparantly after he quit being a Smokey Mountain Boy he tried to do solo performances some. I have no idea what ever became of him after this, he may have just totally retired from music. Happy downloading!

Byron Parker & His Mountaineers - Bluegrass Roots
Bluegrass Roots---indeed this group had sort of an "in between" sound. Too bluegrassy for old time, too old time to call bluegrass. I`d call them pre-bluegrass. The playing style on the banjo here is probably what makes the style what it is. Snuffy Smith`s banjo playing was a three finger style very much approaching what Earl Scruggs came out with just a few short years later. Snuffy Smith could also play old time clawhammer style banjo, and sometimes played both ways in one tune. Snuffy Smith also used the type banjo that Earl Scruggs made standard issue for bluegrass banjo, the Gibson Mastertone. Enjoy!

Jumpshare files gone??!!
Well, now what`s going on?? I looked for an easy to use file service, found it in Jumpshare, and now it`s gone. And I don`t just mean my files are gone, the whole Jumpshare web site seems to have disappeared.
So---give me a week or two to look around at file services and I`ll get this stuff re-loaded and hopefully some new stuff too. If anyone out there has any suggestions of file services for me to check out just give me a shout and let me know-----Allen

It`s been a while since I have posted anything, so I thought I`d post a few different things at once to make up for it. Here`s a mighty good harmonica pickin` LP. I don`t know anything about Mr. Garner, except to say he`s a good harmonica blower. If you like harmonica at all, download this LP!

The Phipps Family Sings About The Suffering, Crucifixion And Resurrection Of Christ
The Phipps Family stuff seems to be one of the most popular of my posts. This is about my least favorite LP I have of them though. And the title is WAY too long. Haha! From the title, you know there`s not going to be any happy songs on this record. And, their delivery is practically identical to the Carter Family, they have a knack to make the funniest comic song sound somewhat morbid. Haha! Anyway... download and enjoy!

Golden Classics promo disc
Here`s an odd one. A promo 45 for a music club. Most of you know I`m a Roy Acuff fan, so that`s why I bought this. Of course, as can be seen on the labels, there are also a few other country music legends on here too. Enjoy!

Justin Wilson - Truckin` With Justin Wilson
Here`s a funny comedy record by the ole Cajun, Justin Wilson. How many people out there remember his cooking show that used to be on PBS? I can`t believe they don`t show the show again! We should all contact PBS stations across the country demanding that they put it back on the air!

Sam & Annie with Lonnie Glosson
Here is an oddity that I found. It`s a 45 recorded by Sam & Annie, which I have no idea who is. I bought it because the late, great harmonica player, Lonnie Glosson, is on it. Apparantly from the story on the record sleeve, they played at Jimmy Carter`s arrival in Washington, D.C. after he won election. Years ago it was common for candidates to employ hillbilly entertainment on the campaign trail, mostly in the south. I`d say this would have been about the last of this type entertainment at a political function on this level by a lesser-known type country artist. Nowadays, only a super-star would be hired for such an event. I actually have played at a political rally myself, on the county level for a distant cousin of mine.
At any rate, give this a listen for at least the harmonica by Lonnie Glosson.
Track titles are---
1. Honey-Dew Love
2. Jimmy Carter Special

An Introduction To Your Autoharp
Here`s sort of an unusual 45 I dug out of the archive for you. This will be something that will likely be boring to listen to if you aren`t into autoharp. Mother Maybelle Carter is on it, though only on the first cut. As this cover says Sears on it, I`d guess this record may have came with an autoharp, which you could certainly have ordered from Sears in the 1960`s, which I`d guess is when this was made. Happy downloading!

Elmer Bird - The Banjo Man From Turkey Creek
It`s been a while since I posted some good old-time banjo. This is some very hard driving, rhythmic style claw hammer picking. He played what I tend to call the Tennessee style claw hammer banjo, which is more rhythmic than the North Carolina style, which tries to match the same notes as the fiddle, note for note. Mr. Bird had a VERY hard driving style. Listen and enjoy!

This is the last two Dick Unteed LP`s I own, and as far as I can tell this makes all he recorded. It was mentioned in a message on one of the two earlier posts he may have made an LP under an assumed name also, so, something else may pop up someday. Enjoy!
