Obray Ramsey Sings Jimmie Rodgers Favorites - LP on the Prestige/International label
Here is on more Obray Ramsey LP. If you like this I encourage you to go back in the blog and find the other Obray Ramsey LP`s I have posted in the past.
The Obray Ramsey records I have posted in the past had more response from fans of the Archive that any other records. I do have one more of his LP`s I will post soon. Sorry the scans of the back of the LP cover don`t line up so well, I have to make more than one scan to get the whole cover. Hope you enjoy this one!

ReplyDeleteIf i may make a request? More 78s please! :)
Thanks again.
Ed
What an obscure and interesting album! Obray Ramsey has a strongly personal approach to sining and accompanying these songs. There is no attempt at all to imitate Jimmie Rodgers.
ReplyDeleteJohn Greenway's excellent liner notes cover Jimmie Rodgers life; how folklorists reacted to his work; and background of Obray Ramsey.
Thanks for this fine post.
Don
Opps! I meant "personal approach to singing" not "personal approach to sining". Its tough to type under pressure!
ReplyDeleteDon
Yeah Don, he takes Jimmie`s tunes and really makes them his own. Pretty neat record just because of that, let alone Obray`s banjo style.
ReplyDeletebest archive i've come across yet!!!!! i'm learning so much!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words Daniel!
