New Lost City Ramblers 10 inch LP - Old Timey Songs For Children
10 inch LP time! I can`t believe in 1959 anyone would still issue a 10 inch LP. Oh well----it`s a good one.
I`m not going to go into any information about the New Lost City Ramblers. There is plenty of information on the internet about them.
Hope you all enjoy this one!
Track list from back of LP---
They sure didn`t go to any trouble to design a back for the record jacket, just this narrow song list and black otherwise.

Another great find, but why no Barbara Allen in the file, was she a relative of yours :)
ReplyDeleteGreat work sir, I really enjoy your site.
I have corrected the problem mentioned in HillBilly`s post above. Just re-download the music file and it will ALL be there this time. Happy listening!
ReplyDeleteThe back cover was standard practice for Folkways' releases "back in the day".
ReplyDeleteInside would be an 8+ page booklet of liner notes, lyrics, photos, and often the music or tabs for the songs. They were a class act and owning one of their lp's made one feel like a true connoisseur of folk music.
btw,
ReplyDeleteI met Tracy Schwarz (who replaced Tom Paley in the NLCR) yesterday at a folk festival in Madison WI. He and Ginny Hawker are still singing the old songs, and doing it beautifully.
Lovely record! Already added one song to my songbook to learn it better (Chewing Gum). And yes, there were quite a few 10" records released on into the early 1960's, and it's funny how often ten inch records turn out to be terrific! Good ol' Folkways.
ReplyDeleteI just want to add that this album is every bit as much for adults to enjoy as for children. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYou are exactly right Don.
ReplyDeleteanything these fellows recorded is worth many listens. thanks for the chance...

Love this stuff! Do you have any more New Lost City Ramblers stuff?
ReplyDeleteI sure do!
DeleteI should say that I don`t have anymore ready to post though, and don`t know when I would have it ready. Most of their material has been re-issued on CD.
