Hello neighbors!! On this page I`ll be posting county music (or music that influences country music) from my collection of 78`s LP`s and 45`s. Most of what I`ll have here will be from about 1900 up into the 1950`s or so. I`ll try to use stuff that is not currently available to buy. All artists I`ll be posting recorded before 1950, but some recordings may have been made later than 1950. I hope you all enjoy what I`ll be putting one here!!

Frank Wilson & His Blue Ridge Mountain Trio - Columbia 15372-D
Frank Wilson & His Blue Ridge Mountain Trio / Columbia 15372-D
Polly Ann / Katy-Did Waltz
recorded February 20, 1929 in New York City, New York
Here is one more disc that was the only side recorded by a group. The pickers are Charlie Bowman on fiddle, Frank Wilson on slide guitar and Walter Bowman on banjo. All these men recorded in other combinations with other groups. The slide guitar sound, which I`m sure is played lap style here, gives this combination a unique sound. Then with the addition of finger picked banjo gives them a sort of a parlor music sound to me. My copy of this disc is in decent shape, though both sides start kind of noisy but get better as they play. It`s plenty listenable. Happy downloading!

Now them's some nice waltzes. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteFrank Wilson recorded for Paramount with Wilmer Watts and Charles Freshour,. Both Wilson and Charlie Bowman played with Al Hopkins' band in the 1920s. I guess Walter Bowman was somehow kin to Charlie but I don't know the details.
ReplyDeleteI think on one record Charlie is talking and calls Walter his brother.
