New "Series" - Dick Unteed

 Here is a new "series" I`m going to start. I don`t really know anything about Dick Unteed, but he recorded at least five LP`s for the Rural Rhythm label and one on the Rome label (which may have been related somehow to Rural Rhythm). He apparently also worked for the Rural Rhythm label as a producer.
Anyhow, here`s some good old time songs mixed with some Irish comic songs, sang with a pleasant voice with some pretty good instrumentalists, such a Smoky Mountain Boy Jimmie Riddle on harmonica on some tracks. Happy downloading!

Correction for Clayton McMichen - The Traditional Years post

Seems somehow the song  My Carolina Home from the LP has disappeared from my music program where I store all my music. But... I had transferred off the 78 of it have, so I`m just posting it. My 78 of this is in nearly mint condition, so I`d say the sound quality is as good or maybe even better than what was on the LP anyhow, plus we get one more bonus tune!

Clayton McMichen - The Traditional Years

Here`s a pretty good LP on Clayton McMichen. If you know anything at all about him, you`ll know he was a member of the old string band, Gid Tanner & The Skillet Lickers. If you know a little more about him, you may know he played on some Jimmie Rodgers records and even wrote one of his most popular songs, Peach Pickin` Time In Georgia. What this LP deals with is more of  what I`d call "just McMichen" recordings, that is records that had featured or soloed McMichen. He was literally on hundreds of 78`s from 1925 through 1939. I would even venture to say that he may have been on more 78`s than any other country artist (except maybe Vernon Dalhart) if you count all the records he recorded a sort of a studio artist. Bill Boyd - Roy Acuff Armed Forces Radio Service transcription

 Here`s something a little different with this 16 inch transcription disc. Let me start by saying I know nothing about Bill Boyd. So... let`s move on to what I do know, Roy Acuff. What we have on the Acuff side is we have Lum and Abner joined by Gabby Hayes as sort of the "MC`s" of this "show". Lum & Abner was a comedy duo of two young men playing old men that ran a country store in Pine Ridge, Arkansas on their radio show. Most everyone remembers who Gabby Hayes was, the scruffy side-kick from many 1930`s-1950`s "B" western movies.
Now, you may notice as you listen that Lum, Abner & Gabby all talk to Roy, but Roy never speaks. What was done is that Roy`s songs have been dubbed into the show. Now for what`s the most interesting, the songs dubbed in seen to all be Columbia un-issued takes of these songs, and one song that was never issued at all, Is It Too Late Now. Pretty neat stuff!
